Annie & Bodhi Jacox

What is your profession and what do you love most about it?

I am a stay at home mom. What I love most is being able to see Bodhi do things for the first time, like when he said “mama” for the first time.

What is your favorite yoga pose and why?

I would definitely say crow because its something i never thought i would be able to do! we did it at my first class at The River and i really believed I would never be able to balance like that. I practiced a lot at home and during class and one day I did it. It was a big deal to me.

What is “Your Yoga Story”?

I started dating my husband a little over 4 years ago and he was practicing yoga almost daily at that point. He would beg me to attend a class with him and i refused. Looking back I don’t think i was interested because I didn’t think i was flexible enough and was really self conscience in yoga clothes. Over the next 3 years I went to maybe 3 classes total, where I would sit in the back corner and watched everyone else the entire time. In January of this year I randomly got the desire to go to yoga. Being a stay at home mom i don’t get a lot of alone self care time and i thought i would give yoga a try. I had a few friends let me know about The River and how they had childcare. On a Friday in January, my husband and I took the 9 am class while Bodhi played with the rest of the kids outside. I was basically hooked from that point on and i seriously wonder why it took me so long?! I can’t even really explain in words how great I feel and how much my life has changed since allowing yoga to come into my life. I no longer care how I look in my yoga pants and finally moved my mat up to the middle and front of the room. The classes became about the yoga, and not my ego.

What do you love about the River that makes it hOMe?

I love The River so much! From the very first day I have felt so welcome and at home. The staff and teachers knew our names since the very first day and it means so much to have the community embrace Bodhi. I really love how the classes are all levels. It makes me feel like we are one community of yogis helping and supporting each other. I love the group Facebook page where people get together for activities and give back to the community. I love the family friendly atmosphere and warm energy of The River.  There is no other studio like The River! Bodhi loves The River because he gets to see his friends everyday and play with toys and sometimes dogs!

What is one thing that makes you UNIQUE?

I love to quilt! Its a random hobby for someone my age and people are always shocked to find out. I love giving them as gifts because they will last a life time. Something unique about Bodhi is that he has a really strong grip and at 18 months he could hang from the monkey bars all by himself.
