Stephanie Winsor
Steph Winsor (she/her) first found yoga + meditation through organized sports and her Unitarian Universalist church. Steph’s coaches taught her to harness the skill of visualization and meditation to harness her potential and calm her nerves while ski racing and showing horses in high school. Pain from scoliosis and constant injury led her ski coach to suggest yoga to alleviate some of her physical pain.
Steph is an Experience-Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) 500, yoga teacher trainer, and forever a humble student of yoga. She is the founder of Winsor Wellness and Consulting, LLC., and serves as a scientific research consultant to Yoga Alliance’s Professional Support and Social Impact teams. She is a Yoga Teacher and Jr. Researcher in the Neurorehabilitation and integrative practices field. With a Master's in Clinical Psychology and Education from the Spirituality Mind Body Institute at Teacher's College, Columbia University. She leads programs and trainings that highlight the power of yoga and psychoeducation. Steph has specifically worked with the LoveYourBrain Foundation since 2016 to share yoga for those affected by Traumatic Brain Injury leading in-person and online yoga & mindset programming, yoga teacher trainings, and retreats. She is passionate about using scientific research to better educate yoga teachers and leverage the therapeutic effect of yoga.
Steph leads with connection, humor, and down-to-earth dialogue. You can count on her to make you feel welcome, well educated, and inspired to be authentically you. Steph mostly leads Deep Stretch & Meditation classes at the River as she founded this style at our studio and leads Deep Stretch & Meditation trainings. She will go above and beyond to encourage you to feel comfortable, seen, and cared for. You can expect to use props, stay close to the ground and really chill out during savasana. The room is often turned in to face the center of the space and Steph likes to leverage lighting and sound to set the vibe. You can count on Steph to lighten the mood with an infectious giggle, use metaphor and also passionately stand up for what she believes in!
If Steph isn't working behind the computer or teaching yoga in her community, you are likely to find her riding her horse, making her friends laugh, skiing, or out to live music! She is a mediocre and new rock climber, loves to tell a bad pun or dad joke, and will ask to pet every dog she ever sees.
